I work in front of the speakers. Not a figure of speech. Photo pit, rail, the spot where the stack is taller than the people yelling next to it. If you leave a show and the ringing is still there in the car, you did it wrong. I did it wrong for years.
I am not a lab. I am a photographer who got tired of the mix turning into mush and my ears feeling like a hangover the next morning. Concert plugs are not the foam they hand you at a range. Those flatten everything. You want the music. You want less of the part that cooks you.
NRR around 20 is where I live. Lower and you still cook. Higher and you are listening through a pillow. Fit matters more than the number on the box. If they fall out when you sweat, they are jewelry.
Loop Switch 2
This is what I keep coming back to when I need options in one pair. About $60. You dial Quiet, Experience, or Engage. Pit to lobby. Outdoor festival to a conversation in the merch line. NRR 20 to 26 depending on the mode. They look like earrings if you pick a metal finish, which is useful when you do not want to look like you brought industrial PPE to a Thursday night.
Loop Experience 2
The cheaper concert pair if you do not need the dial. About $35. NRR 17. I have thrown these in a vest pocket and been fine. Not as flexible. Fine for a club that is loud but not a stack in your face all night.
Eargasm
About $44. NRR 21. They sit quieter in the ear and the case clips to a keychain, which matters when you are emptying pockets at security. I have lost nicer plugs in a bin. The case is the whole product for me.
Vibes
About $39. NRR 15. The nobody-can-tell pair. Good if you hate how plugs look in pictures. Not enough cut for me on a night I am against the PA. Fine for a seated room or a show where you are not eating the monitors.
Decibullz
About $40. You heat them and mold them. NRR is only 12, so they are not my pit pair. They are the pair for people who cannot keep a universal tip in. If nothing stays in your ear, start here, then get customs if this is your job.
Foam in the camera bag
Walker's Pro-Tek or whatever is $5 at the pharmacy. NRR 25. They kill the mix. I keep a pair anyway because I lose things. Better muffled than ringing.
If you do this every week, get custom molds. ACS, Etymotic, whoever your audiologist trusts. A $40 pair is not the same as that. I am not going to pretend it is. The cheap ones are how you start without going deaf while you save up.
Buy it from the company if you can. I do not take a cut and I am not going to drop twelve Amazon links on you.
I still hear the shutter. I still hear the drop. I just do not pay for it the next day.
