The Pregame Is the Night

Dinner is the night if you do it right. The show is two hours. The parking, the plate, the drink within walking distance — that is the rest of your evening, and I have ruined more than one by skipping it.

Stubb's: you eat on the patio or you eat after and fight everybody who had the same idea. I have done both. The patio is the move if doors are later than your hunger. I learned that standing in a merch line with a rumble.

Bayou Music Center in Houston: there is food. There is a drink. The city does not make you choose between eating and making doors. I have sat somewhere close and still walked in on time. That is a Houston talent.

South Side in Dallas is the parking first. Then whatever is still open on the block. I have eaten a meal I did not taste because I was watching the clock. I have also been early on purpose and felt like I had my life together for forty minutes.

I used to roll up at doors and call it efficiency. It was just me skipping dinner. The pregame is the night. The set is why you came.

Moody Studios

Jasmine. Austin. Live music, Black culture, and whatever I actually sat through. I write like I was in the room because I was.

I Can Count Us

Some Austin rooms I can count. Houston does not make me do that math. I still live here.
