Most rooms kick you out at 11 like the night is finished. It is not. The crowd is sweaty, ears ringing, somebody already in the group chat saying food.
Austin: a patio or home. After Stubb’s the options are close and limited, and everybody had the same idea. Tacos you did not need because the alternative was sitting in the car. The city folds earlier than the set did.
Houston will still be open. That is a personality. Bayou Music Center lets out and the city does not fold. A room, a plate, a second night if anybody has it left.
Dallas after South Side is the parking lot first. Then whatever is still lit on the drive. Calling it and going back to the hotel is correct. Not calling it is also correct. The bill decides.
The afters used to feel like the point. Now the show is the point, and the afters are whether anything is left. The venue clock is not the night’s clock. Texas just charges different rates for what happens next.
Venues sell a start time. They do not sell what happens when the lights come up. Austin will send you to a patio or a driveway. Houston will still be open. Dallas will hand you a parking lot and a decision.
The afters used to be the flex. Now they are a stamina check. The show is the point. Everything after is whether the city is still a city at 11:40.
Budget for food. Budget for the fact that Stubb’s and South Side do not let out into the same kind of night.
