Anna Andrews, a TV journalist, returns to her Georgia hometown to cover a murder case. Her estranged husband Jack is the detective running it. Both have personal ties to the victims. Both have reasons to be lying. There are two sides to every story and someone is definitely not telling the truth.
“There are two sides to every story. The truth is usually somewhere neither of them is willing to go.”
What It Actually Felt Like
I thoroughly enjoyed this show before the big plot twist at the end, which is actually the most important thing I can tell you about it. A mystery series that’s only good because of its ending is a different, worse show. His and Hers is genuinely engaging the whole way through.
The Thompson/Bernthal dynamic works because they feel like two people who actually have history. You believe the hurt between them without the show having to explain it to you. That weight is there in how they talk to each other, how they don’t, and it makes the investigation feel personal in a way that keeps you invested past the plot.
And then the twist landed and I had to pause for a second. Genuinely didn’t see it coming. That’s rare enough that I want to say it out loud.
The Honest Part
The finale has two twists and the second one doesn’t land as cleanly as the first. A lot of people felt it was one too many and I think I agree. But everything leading up to that point is strong enough that it only costs the ending, not the whole show.
Who This Is For
Mystery and thriller fans who want something worth the whole weekend. Fans of the Alice Feeney novel will find this adaptation mostly respectful of the source. Go in without knowing the twist.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Netflix thriller I’ve seen in a while. Tessa Thompson is that girl.
