A collection of connected mystery stories centered on disturbing photographs that contain hidden messages and secrets. Each story peels back another layer of what the pictures are actually showing.

“A photograph captures the moment. But the moment was already gone before the shutter clicked.”

What It Actually Felt Like

I was excited for this one the Japanese horror aesthetic, unsettling photographs, the whole concept felt like something that would get under my skin. It didn’t quite land the way I hoped.

The pictures are interesting and the mysteries are fine but I wouldn’t really call this horror. It reads more like a puzzle book than something designed to unsettle you. It held my attention just enough to finish but didn’t keep it the way I wanted. I’m still interested in Strange Houses though and might give this another chance in the future.

The Honest Part

If you’re going in for Japanese horror energy, manage your expectations. This is psychological mystery more than genuine horror. Not bad, just not what I was hoping for.

Who This Is For

Readers who like puzzle like mysteries with a Japanese aesthetic. Just don’t expect to be scared.

⭐⭐⭐  Didn’t land for me but not bad. Still want to try the sequel.
